CT Injector for Sale in Dallas: Matching It to Your Scanner and Room

Many problems after a CT injector purchase have nothing to do with the injector itself. They are mismatches: an interface the scanner cannot use, a pedestal that blocks the table, a console with nowhere to sit. A walk through the room before you buy avoids all three. This guide follows that walk, from the scanner to the supply room, for imaging departments across Dallas–Fort Worth. Stop 1: the CT scanner

Write down the scanner's make, model and software version. A technologist can always start the injector and the scan separately. Starting both together from the scanner console, and recording the injection data with the study, needs an interface that both machines support.

Many scanner and injector links use CiA 425, a CANopen standard for injector interfaces. GE's Xtream Injector Option, cleared by the FDA in 2008, is one example: it lets selected GE CT scanners start the scan and a CiA 425-compatible injector with a single button (FDA 510(k) K082960). Siemens and ulrich medical announced a similar link in 2012 that shows injection parameters at the scanner console and can save them with the patient record (Healthcare in Europe). So ask two questions: does your scanner have its interface option installed, and does the injector version you are buying support it?

Stop 2: the floor around the table

CT injectors stand on a floor pedestal or hang from a ceiling mount. Bayer's Stellant FLEX, for example, is offered with a floor pedestal that includes an IV pole, or with an overhead counterpoise system (Stellant FLEX specifications). A pedestal is quicker to install and can move between rooms, but it takes floor space beside the table, and its cables must stay clear of the gantry and the table's travel. A ceiling mount keeps the floor clear, but it needs structural support and a mounting kit made for that injector, so it takes more planning in an existing room.

Before you choose, run the table through its full travel, tilt the gantry if your scanner tilts, and watch the path staff take around the patient. The injector head needs to reach the patient's arm in every position you use without stretching the tubing.

Stop 3: power and cables

Ask for the injector's power requirement and confirm there is a suitable outlet where the pedestal or ceiling column will be. The Stellant FLEX, for instance, runs on 100 to 240 V AC and draws 300 volt-amps. Plan the cable route from the scan room to the control room through existing conduit or a pass-through, and keep it away from door hinges and the table base, where cables get crushed.

Stop 4: the control room

The injector's control console usually sits beside the scanner console, so the technologist can watch both screens and the patient through the window. Some newer systems add wireless touch screens instead of a fixed console. Check desk space, a power outlet and whether the console needs a network connection for protocols or data transfer to RIS or PACS.

Stop 5: the supply room

Confirm that disposables for your exact injector version are still sold, how they are packed and what they cost per patient. Store them close to where staff load the injector, and plan contrast storage, including a warmer if your protocols call for warmed contrast.
