Most equipment breakdowns give warning first: a worn battery, a cracked hose, a motor that runs hot, a filter nobody changed. Medical equipment preventive maintenance finds those problems on a schedule, before they stop a case or fail an inspection. Mr. Biomed Tech Services runs preventive maintenance programs for hospitals, surgery centers, clinics and home health providers across Texas, and our full medical equipment maintenance services page covers every plan we offer.
What you get:
- A maintenance schedule for every device, based on manufacturer recommendations and how hard each device works.
- Planned visits that cover the whole list at once, with a record for every device.
- Repairs found during maintenance quoted before any work, and rental units available if a device has to come out of service.
- Same-day service across Dallas–Fort Worth; other Texas areas get visits scheduled in advance, under 8 business hours, Monday through Friday.
What a preventive maintenance visit includes
- Inspection: housing, cables, connectors, wheels, mounts and labels.
- Cleaning: filters, fans and vents, so equipment doesn't overheat.
- Parts: scheduled replacement of batteries, seals, gaskets, tubing and other wear parts.
- Performance and calibration: measured against the manufacturer's specification. See our medical equipment calibration services.
- Electrical safety testing: leakage current and ground resistance.
- Records: dated results for each device and a list of anything that needs repair.
Preventive maintenance by equipment type
| Equipment | Typical PM tasks | Common failure it prevents |
|---|---|---|
| Hospital beds and stretchers | Actuators, hand controls, rails, brakes, casters, batteries | Beds stuck high or low; rails that don't latch |
| Infusion pumps | Flow accuracy, occlusion alarms, battery, door and latch | Wrong delivery rates; pumps that die on transport |
| Patient monitors | Parameter accuracy, alarms, cables, battery | False alarms or missed alarms |
| Autoclaves | Door gasket, valves, sensors, water quality, chamber cleaning | Failed cycles and wet packs |
| C-arms and X-ray | Tube and generator checks, collimator, image chain, mechanical movement | Poor images and cancelled cases |
| Anesthesia machines | Leak tests, flow meters, vaporizers, valves, alarms | Leaks and failed pre-use checks |
Why a written PM program matters
Surveyors look for an equipment maintenance program and the records behind it. Hospitals that bill Medicare must maintain equipment under CMS rules, and CMS memo S&C 14-07 explains when a facility may use an alternate schedule instead of the manufacturer's. A written program also lowers repair costs, because small parts are cheaper than emergency repairs and lost cases.
Plans for every facility
- Full program: we manage your inventory, schedule and records as your outsourced biomed team. See clinical engineering services.
- Scheduled visits: quarterly, twice a year or yearly, for clinics and surgery centers.
- Inspection only: our annual medical equipment inspection for facilities with a small equipment list.
- Breakdowns between visits: handled by our biomedical equipment repair services, with rental equipment to cover downtime.

Medical Equipment Preventive Maintenance: FAQs
How often should medical equipment get preventive maintenance?
Follow the manufacturer's interval unless your facility has an approved alternate program. For most general equipment that is once or twice a year; high-use devices such as infusion pumps, beds and autoclaves often need more frequent checks.
Is preventive maintenance the same as an inspection?
No. An inspection checks safety and function. Preventive maintenance also cleans the device, replaces wear parts and calibrates it, so it keeps working until the next visit.
Can you maintain equipment from different brands?
Yes. One visit can cover beds, pumps, monitors, autoclaves and imaging equipment from different manufacturers.
What happens if you find a problem during maintenance?
We fix small issues on the spot. Bigger repairs are quoted first, and we can supply a rental unit while the repair is done.
