Refurbished Stress Test System in San Antonio: What to Inspect

Refurbished stress test system for sale in San Antonio

A refurbished stress test system can save a San Antonio practice a meaningful share of the cost of new equipment. The risk is concentrated in two places: the treadmill, which is a heavy mechanical machine that wears with every patient, and the software, which may run on an operating system that is no longer supported. This checklist covers what to inspect on each part of a used stress system before you buy, and the red flags that should change the price or end the conversation. Stress systems are part of our new and refurbished medical equipment for sale.

Treadmill checks

Belt and deck

  • Run the belt at walking and running speeds; it should track straight and not slip under load.
  • Look for frayed edges, glazing or tears on the belt.
  • Ask when the belt and deck were last replaced or lubricated; a worn deck makes the motor work harder and shortens its life.

Drive motor and controller

  • Speed should change smoothly, without surges, at every protocol stage.
  • Listen for grinding, whining or knocking.
  • Check the motor controller's error log if the treadmill has one.

Elevation

  • Run the treadmill through its full grade range and back to level.
  • Elevation should be smooth and quiet, and the platform should return to zero.

Calibration

The AHA exercise testing standards (Fletcher et al., Circulation 2013) say treadmill speed and grade must be accurately calibrated. Ask for a calibration check of both, and have it repeated after installation, because moving a treadmill can change its settings.

Safety features

  • Emergency stop works instantly from the operator side.
  • Handrails are solid, with no loose bolts.
  • Gradual start and stop function correctly.
  • Weight capacity label is present and suits your patients.

ECG acquisition checks

  • Patient cable and lead wires tested for continuity, with no cracked clips or connectors.
  • All 12 leads verified with a patient simulator, including correct polarity and calibration.
  • Signal quality checked during a staff walk-through on the treadmill; noise during exercise is the most common complaint.
  • Electrical safety test results recorded.

Blood pressure checks

If the system includes an automated stress BP unit, its readings should be compared against a reference during a test, and the cuff, hose and microphone or sensor inspected. If you will take blood pressure manually, have a good sphygmomanometer and stethoscope in the room.

Software and PC checks

  • Operating system: confirm the version and whether it still receives security updates. An unsupported system may be acceptable offline, but your IT team should decide before it joins your network.
  • Software version and licenses: protocols, reports and any connectivity options should be confirmed in writing.
  • Data: previous patients' records must be removed before delivery.
  • Backups: ask for installation media or a recovery method in case the PC fails.
  • Printer: confirm the printer and paper are still available.

What refurbishing should include

A properly refurbished stress system is more than a cleaned treadmill. Expect the belt and deck to be inspected and replaced if worn, the drive and elevation systems serviced, speed and grade calibrated, the patient cable and lead wires tested or replaced, the ECG module verified on a simulator, and the software reinstalled cleanly with previous data removed. Cosmetic work matters least. Ask the seller to list exactly what was replaced, with dates, so you know which parts are new and which still carry their original wear.

Planning the move

Treadmills are heavy and awkward. Check the delivery path, doorways and elevator, and plan for leveling and recalibration after installation. The dedicated electrical circuit should be in place before delivery day so testing can begin as soon as the system is checked.

Red flags

  • Treadmill sold without any service history or calibration record.
  • Belt slips or the treadmill hesitates under a walking adult.
  • No emergency stop or a stop that doesn't work instantly.
  • Software that cannot be reinstalled if the PC fails.
  • Previous practice's patient data still on the system.
  • "As is" pricing close to the price of a tested, reconditioned system.

Documents to collect

  1. Bill of sale with model and serial numbers for the treadmill, ECG module and PC
  2. Test report: treadmill speed and grade, ECG simulator results, electrical safety, BP checks
  3. Software version and license list
  4. Warranty terms in writing; ours is 90 days on reconditioned systems
