X-ray machine for sale in Socorro, El Paso

For a clinic in Socorro or elsewhere in the El Paso area, buying an X-ray machine often means buying from a supplier in another part of Texas. That can work well, and it can widen your choice of refurbished systems, but an X-ray system is heavy, delicate in places, and comes with state testing and registration steps that someone local will have to complete. This guide sets out how to buy, ship, install and support an X-ray system from a distance. Our new and refurbished medical equipment for sale is supplied from our Garland headquarters in North Texas.

Be clear about distance and service

Socorro is roughly 600 miles from Garland. We deliver to the El Paso area and provide on-site service there, with visits scheduled in advance, so plan delivery, installation and testing dates together before you buy. Many facilities also keep a local contact for urgent help between scheduled visits.

Step 1: Choose the system and confirm the room

Decide on the type of system first: a fixed radiographic room, a compact U-arm, or a mobile unit. Our guide to X-ray system types compares them. Then get the manufacturer's installation requirements for the exact model and check them against your room, electrical supply and shielding before you commit. Shielding questions go to a medical physicist; it is far easier to resolve them before the machine ships.

Step 2: Inspect remotely

You won't be able to walk around the machine, so ask for:

  • A live video call showing the system powering on, moving through its positions and making test exposures
  • Photos of the serial number labels for the generator, tube, collimator and detector
  • Tube age or exposure history, and the service history
  • A flat-field detector image to check for lines or bad pixels
  • The software version and DICOM options in writing

Our refurbished X-ray inspection guide explains what to look for in each.

Step 3: Plan the freight

A radiographic room ships as several large pieces: the tube stand or ceiling mount, table, wall stand, generator cabinet and workstation. The tube and detector are the most fragile parts.

  • Use a carrier experienced with medical equipment, with a lift gate and inside delivery.
  • Insure the shipment for its full value.
  • Pack wireless detectors separately in padded cases, and ship tubes as the manufacturer or installer specifies.
  • Confirm the delivery entrance, doorway sizes and path to the room in advance.
  • Inspect every crate for damage before you sign, and photograph anything suspicious.

Step 4: Install and test locally

Installation includes mounting, electrical connection, calibration, detector setup and network connection. Under the DSHS equipment performance evaluation guidance, a medical X-ray machine needs an equipment performance evaluation within 30 days after installation, performed by or under the supervision of a licensed medical physicist. Line up the installer and physicist before the machine arrives so the system doesn't sit idle.

Step 5: Registration and staffing

Your facility registers its X-ray equipment with the Texas Department of State Health Services, names a radiation safety officer and makes sure every operator holds the right Texas Medical Board credential. Our Texas X-ray compliance guide lists each step; they are the same in El Paso as anywhere else in Texas.

Step 6: Plan ongoing service

Decide who will handle preventive maintenance, repairs and the next equipment performance evaluation, which for radiographic units is generally due every two years. Keep a schedule of our service visits, a local contact for urgent help, a list of the parts most likely to fail (detector batteries, collimator lamps, cables) and the manufacturer's service information for the model. Our engineers can help by phone and respond to requests in under 8 business hours, Monday through Friday.

What to do with the old machine

If the new system replaces an older one, plan its removal before the new one arrives, since the room usually has to be cleared first. Notify DSHS that the old unit is out of service, keep a record of how it was disposed of or sold, and make sure any stored patient images on its workstation are cleared or transferred. Our medical equipment disposition service provides documented disposal and resale, with records for your registration file; ask whether pickup can be arranged from El Paso, or use a local recycler that provides the same paperwork.

Shipping a C-arm or other imaging equipment too?

If you are also buying a C-arm, our El Paso C-arm buying guide covers the same remote-purchase steps for fluoroscopy.

Red flags when buying from a distance

  • No live demonstration offered
  • Serial numbers missing or not matching the paperwork
  • No answer on who will install and test the system in El Paso
  • No written warranty; ours is 90 days on reconditioned equipment
