Ultrasound Machine Parts in Texas: Probes, Boards and Replacement Parts

Ultrasound machine replacement parts in Texas

When an ultrasound machine fails, the fix is often a single part: a probe, a board, a power supply or a monitor. Getting the right part quickly, and knowing it has been tested, decides whether the machine is back in service in days or sits idle for weeks. This guide explains which ultrasound parts fail most often, how to match a part to your system and what to ask before you buy. You can also browse complete systems on our medical equipment page.

The parts that fail most often

Probes (transducers)

Probes are handled, dropped, cleaned and connected many times a day, so they are the most frequently replaced ultrasound part. Common problems include:

  • Dead or weak elements, which show as dark vertical lines or dropouts in the image.
  • Cracked or delaminated lens, which can let gel and disinfectant into the probe and is an infection control and electrical safety concern.
  • Cable damage near the strain relief or the connector, causing intermittent images.
  • Connector pin damage from repeated plugging.

For help choosing probes for a new system, see our ultrasound probe buying guide. Correct cleaning extends probe life; our probe disinfection guide covers the basics.

Boards and power supplies

Beamformer, front-end, back-end and power supply boards can fail from age, heat or power events. Symptoms range from a system that will not boot to missing modes, noise in the image or random shutdowns.

Monitors and touch panels

Flickering, dead pixels, failed backlights and unresponsive touch screens are common on older systems.

Control panels, trackballs and keyboards

Worn trackballs, sticky keys and broken encoders slow every exam. These are usually quick replacements.

Batteries, fans and hard drives

Portable systems depend on batteries that wear out over time. Clogged or failed fans cause overheating shutdowns. Failing hard drives can lose stored studies and presets, so back up regularly.

Matching a part to your system

Ultrasound parts are rarely universal. Before ordering, gather:

  • The system make, model and serial number.
  • The software version shown on the system information screen.
  • The part number printed on the probe or board, and a photo of the label.
  • For probes, the connector type and the exam types you use it for.

A probe or board that fits physically can still fail to work if it does not match the software version or system configuration. Sharing these details up front avoids returns and delays.

New, refurbished or repaired parts

  • New parts come from the manufacturer or an authorized source and usually cost the most. Some older systems no longer have new parts available.
  • Refurbished parts are used parts that have been cleaned, tested and repaired where needed. They are a common way to keep older systems running at lower cost.
  • Repairing your own part, such as a probe with a damaged lens or cable, can be the cheapest option when the core electronics are sound.

Whichever you choose, ask how the part was tested. For probes, that means an element test that checks every element, plus a visual inspection of the lens, housing, cable and connector, and an electrical leakage check. For boards, it means testing in a working system of the same model and software level.

Questions to ask before you buy

  • Was this exact part tested on a system matching my model and software version?
  • Can you share the test results, including element test results for probes?
  • What warranty applies to this part, and what does it cover?
  • What happens if the part does not work in my system?
  • Do you install the part, or will my own engineer install it?

When a part is not the whole answer

Sometimes the symptom points to one part while the cause is another. A noisy image, for example, can come from a probe, a board or electrical interference in the room. A diagnostic visit can save money by finding the real fault before parts are ordered. Our ultrasound machine repair page covers diagnostics and repair across Texas. If the system will be out for a while, our rental services can provide a loaner.

Making parts last longer

  • Hang probes in their holders between exams and never let cables lie on the floor where carts can roll over them.
  • Use only the cleaning and disinfection products the probe manufacturer lists as compatible.
  • Inspect lenses and cables at the start of each day and pull a damaged probe from use right away.
  • Keep vents and fan filters clear of dust, and avoid blocking the back of the cart against a wall.
  • Plug systems into a dedicated outlet and, where your facility allows, a suitable surge-protected supply.
  • Charge portable batteries as the manufacturer recommends and replace them when run time drops noticeably.
